Nexon’s looter shooter, The First Descendant, has been mired in a few controversies in its early days. Its less-than-ideal release saw the game become virtually unplayable due to login and server issues. But even worse than these network problems were the questionable microtransaction practices present within, which predictably saw plenty of criticism for its outraged player base. This time, although slightly less problematic, the developers have seemingly concealed a few free battle pass skins through a hard-to-find menu.
Initially spotted by Reddit user Lexcelu, you can access these free skins by pressing the hexagonal icon on the bottom right corner of the battle pass hub. Afterward, you’ll be redirected to a page containing six different accessories you can unlock using Supply Coins, including a Neural Network body skin for Ajax. Remember, though, that you need to reach season level 50 before you can claim these prizes, and you’ll also need to complete a fair few weekly challenges to gather enough Supply Coins.
Now, whether on purpose or not, Nexon placing these free accessories on a concealed page brings their monetization issues into the light once again. Based on several comments below Lexcelu’s Reddit post, most players seemingly had no idea about the existence of these freebies, let alone the menu where you can find them in. And predictably enough, many are calling Nexon out once again, with one user bluntly calling this hidden menu “a**hole design.”
Unfortunately, Nexon is no stranger to being called out for its microtransactions, as many of its previous games have been similarly criticized for the same issues. With this in mind, the notorious video game publisher may not be planning on changing its monetization strategy anytime soon—that is, unless something drastic happens.
