With The Final Shape launching to stellar reviews, there’s never been a better time to hop back into Destiny 2. But if it didn’t strike your fancy or if you want a break from hunting for Exotic gear, here are seven games worth considering.

Borderlands 3 is the game that’s closest to Destiny 2 on this list. It’s a co-op shooter that lets you grind for better loot, just like Bungie’s shooter. You get to travel to different planets and take on bosses and yes, it’s got a story as well, drawing from the lore of the previous games. Since it’s pretty similar to Destiny 2, you should definitely give it a spin. Bring some friends along to take on tougher challenges.

Warframe

If you want a game that’s also free-to-play, Warframe might be your answer. Thanks to extensive updates, it’s not as grindy as before, with plenty of sci-fi content to explore. With fast-paced combat and a variety of abilities to use, it’s similar to how Destiny 2 feels with a third-person view. It’s one of the most played F2P titles out there, with distinct characters to upgrade and gear to earn. It lets you bring friends along for the ride and has some of the best world-building we’ve witnessed, giving you plenty to catch up on.

Halo Infinite

  • Release Date: December 8, 2021
    • – 08 December 2021 (PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X)
  • Platform(s): PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox Series X
  • Genre(s): Action, Adventure, Shooter

While Halo might be Bungie’s baby, Halo Infinite is a reverent newcomer that builds on the foundation that Bungie laid out. While it doesn’t have the same grind for exotic gear, you can still earn cosmetics by playing matches. This is similar to the Crucible mode of Destiny 2 but Halo Infinite pairs PvP combat with positioning and skill over bringing the best weapon to the match. 343 Industries’ game enjoys deep lore and satisfying enemies to tackle as well in its campaign. But only the multiplayer component is free-to-play. Halo Infinite also gives you futuristic vehicles to fight the Banished or enemy players.

Remnant 2

  • Release Date: July 21, 2023
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox Series X
  • Genre(s): Action, Action Adventure, Action RPG, Arcade, RPG, Shooter

Would you recommend this game?

Remnant 2’s online systems feel remarkably similar to Destiny 2’s, from teaming up to fight bosses with friends to collecting rare loot. While its plot might not be as strong as Bungie’s, there are plenty of enemies to face and rewards to work towards. It’s a great time with friends, particularly at higher difficulties. You can hunt for Exotic-like gear from specific enemies as well. The best part is that you can discover new paths on new playthroughs, enhancing Remnant 2’s replayability.

Deep Rock Galactic

  • Release Date: May 13, 2020
    • – 01 January 2017 (Xbox One, PC)
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One
  • Genre(s): Action, Adventure, Indie, Shooter

Who’d say no to dwarves in space? Deep Rock Galactic has plenty of capitalism and mining but that’s not where the magic lies. You’ll be tasked with fighting bug-like beings with teammates as you clear timed objectives for epic loot. This loop is a compelling recipe that has lured in millions of players. The game even has a Tower-like shared space for mini-games and hanging out. With plenty of customization options and weapons to earn, Deep Rock Galactic is worth checking out.

Diablo 4

  • Release Date: June 6, 2023
    • – 31 December 2020 (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X
  • Genre(s): Action, Action RPG, RPG

Would you recommend this game?

On the surface, Diablo 4 might not bear a striking resemblance to Destiny 2. But when it comes to collecting loot, refining builds, and taking on bosses together, few games are as similar. With a strong story against Lilith, constant season updates with new mechanics, and raids to take part in, there are plenty of things to do in Diablo 4. Vessel of Hatred drops in October and brings even more ways to play the game. Bring friends along and you’ll be able to unleash unique attacks and chain passive boosts together.

Monster Hunter World

  • Release Date: 26 January 2018
    • – 26 January 2018 (Xbox One, PlayStation 4)
    • – 01 September 2018 (PC)
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
  • Genre(s): Action

Monster Hunter: World doesn’t have sci-fi guns but it does have hulking monsters to defeat. This co-op RPG focuses on hunting these beasts, with specific tactics you’ll need to master if you want better gear. Finishing a powerful monster can feel like one of Destiny 2’s Nightfalls, endgame activities that involve a series of boss fights. While there are no patrol zones like in Destiny 2, you can still team up with friends and take on challenges together in Monster Hunter: World.
